About Casting House   BACK TO TOP

  • How long has Casting House been in business?
    • Casting House began officially as two companies; Casting House, established in 1998 and GM Casting established back in 1987. Several years ago the two companies merged to create today's Casting House. Jason Borgstahl's father, founder of GM Casting and his Grandpa were both in the trade for years prior; so it's fair to say, jewelry has been in this family for three generations.

  • What makes Casting House the Nation's Premier Caster of Platinum?
    • Casting gold is a skill; casting platinum is an art. Casting House consistently delivers dense, porosity-free platinum castings that polish to an exquisite mirror-like finish. Some casters may tell you a pit under the sprue or in the right-angle corners of your platinum casting is to be expected. Others may have you convinced that you cannot expect fast turnaround, a fair price and perfect platinum castings. YES YOU CAN! Casting House has become the Nation's Premier Caster of Platinum by consistently improving our casting standards, alloys and equipment. We stand fully behind our product and look forward to showing you how good it can be.

About Platinum, Palladium and Other Alloys   BACK TO TOP

  • What can you tell me about Platinum?
    • Platinum is extraordinarily pliable; one gram of the metal can be drawn to produce a fine wire more than one mile long.
    • Because it is so dense, Platinum does not wear away. While platinum scratches this is merely a displacement of the metal; none of its volume is lost.
    • It takes the processing of approximately 10 tons of ore to produce 1 ounce of platinum, whereas it may take only 3 to 4 tons of ore to produce 1 ounce of gold.
    • All the pure platinum in use today would fit into a room only 17 x 17 x 17 feet.

  • What's all the fuss about Palladium?
    • Palladium is an exciting alternative to white gold because it is a light-weight, workable, permanently and naturally white alloy that stays white without continual rhodium plating. Palladium gained initial momentum abroad via jewelry designers and manufacturers and has recently made a splash here in the States. Palladium is now one of the hottest trends in fine jewelry.
